ARTIST STATEMENT:
Sara aims to actualize reimagined futures, through the cultivation of community space, with creation being a tool for world-building. Her work utilizes the physical as an entry point to collapse the spiritual, social, and political selves through the conduit of the body. Their movement treads at the margins of contemporary dance, instinctual improvisation, and storytelling. influenced by their movement lineages including Ballet, Jacob Jonas’ ‘The System’, improvisational scores, modern technique and more, She endeavors to strip back and slow down, getting to the vulnerable; the core; human, and connecting to this essence.
BIO:
Sara is both a dancer and choreographer who grew up in North Idaho, moved to San Antonio, Texas, then journeyed to New York for the Fordham University and Ailey School BFA program. She’s trained in ballet, contemporary, modern, partnering, and holds her BFA in Dance & Sociology. At Ailey, she performed works by Alexander Anderson, Maleek Washington, Rebecca Margolick, and Georgia Usborne. Since graduating, she has worked with companies like Tabula Rasa Dance Theater, Dishman & Co Choreography, Zehnder Dance, and as a freelancer; performing around the city and New England. Immersed in work-study opportunities with Gallim and B12, she worked with Raja Feather Kelly, Scott Jennings, Marion Sparber, Kayla Farrish, and more. Grounded in creative practive, she has been honored to create for Unbound Dance Collective, Creaturespace Commonspace with STORMWRKS, and show work at Green Lung.
Sara is also an arts administrator, having worked with the Bessies, Pentacle's Internship program, and Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, where she is currently the contracts and payment coordinator with the programming team.
